NEW YORK (AP) ? Netflix, Instagram and Pinterest are using Twitter and Facebook to update subscribers after a Virginia storm caused server outages for hours.
Netflix and Pinterest restored service by Saturday afternoon. Instagram engineers are working to restore service but no data was lost. The three websites are customers of Amazon Inc.'s web services division.
The storm killed six people and knocked out electricity for hundreds of thousands in the Mid-Atlantic region.
Amazon spokeswoman Kay Kinton told The Associated Press in an email that the storm cut power to some of company's operations. Service has been restored for most customers, Kinton said.
Netflix, a video streaming service, tweeted that subscribers should reconnect if they still experienced problems.
The online scrapbook service Pinterest says employees are working on remaining issues that may affect performance.

ScienceDaily (June 29, 2012) ? A new study led by University of Pittsburgh researchers reveals that moderate amounts of alcohol -- consumed in a social setting -- can enhance positive emotions and social bonding and relieve negative emotions among those drinking.
While it is usually taken for granted that people drink to reduce stress and enhance positive feelings, many studies have shown that alcohol consumption has an opposite effect. In a new paper titled "Alcohol and Group Formation: A Multimodal Investigation of the Effects of Alcohol on Emotion and Social Bonding," research shows that moderate doses of alcohol have a powerful effect on both male and female social drinkers when they are in a group.
The paper is published online in Psychological Science.
According to the researchers, previous alcohol studies testing the impact of alcohol on emotions involved social drinkers consuming alcohol in isolation rather than in groups.
"Those studies may have failed to create realistic conditions for studying this highly social drug," said Michael A. Sayette, lead author and professor of psychology in Pitt's Kenneth P. Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences. "We felt that many of the most significant effects of alcohol would more likely be revealed in an experiment using a social setting."
Sayette and his colleagues assembled various small groups using 720 male and female participants, a larger sample than in previous alcohol studies. Researchers assessed individual and group interactions using the Facial Action Coding System (FACS) and the Grouptalk model for speech behavior.
They concluded that alcohol stimulates social bonding, increases the amount of time people spend talking to one another, and reduces displays of negative emotions. According to Sayette, the paper introduces into the alcohol literature new measures of facial expression and speech behavior that offer a sensitive and comprehensive assessment of social bonding.
Sayette and eight colleagues took special care in the methods they employed to form the groups. Each participant was randomly assigned to a group of three unacquainted "strangers." Each group was instructed to drink an alcoholic beverage, a placebo, or a nonalcoholic control beverage. Twenty groups representing each gender composition (three males; one female and two males; two males and one female; and three females) were assigned to the three different beverage scenarios. Group members sat around a circular table and consumed three drinks over a 36-minute time span. Each session was video recorded, and the duration and sequence of the participants' facial and speech behaviors were systematically coded frame by frame.
Results showed that alcohol not only increased the frequency of "true" smiles, but also enhanced the coordination of these smiles. In other words, alcohol enhanced the likelihood of "golden moments," with groups provided alcohol being more likely than those offered nonalcoholic beverages to have all three group members smile simultaneously. Participants in alcohol-drinking groups also likely reported greater social bonding than did the nonalcohol-drinking groups and were more likely to have all three members stay involved in the discussion.
"By demonstrating the sensitivity of our group formation paradigm for studying the rewarding effects of alcohol," said Sayette, "we can begin to ask questions of great interest to alcohol researchers -- Why does alcohol make us feel better in group settings? Is there evidence to suggest a particular participant may be vulnerable to developing a problem with alcohol?"
The new research sets the stage for evaluation of potential associations between socioemotional responses to alcohol and individual differences in personality, family history of alcoholism, and genetic vulnerability.
Additional Pitt researchers on the project were Pitt graduate students in psychology Kasey Creswell, John Dimoff, and Catharine Fairbairn and professors of psychology Jeffrey Cohn, John Levine, and Richard Moreland. Other researchers included Bryan Heckman, a graduate student in psychology at the University of South Florida, and Thomas Kirchner, a research investigator at the Schroeder Institute for Tobacco Research and Policy Studies.
The study was funded by a grant from the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism.

Subtitle: Or How China Just Pwned America thanks to twenty years of Republican policies.
For years now the GOP economic plan to outsource US jobs to other countries (also ably assisted by certain neo-liberal DLC Dems), such as China, while also relying upon China to finance our national debt was viewed by people like -- oh, Republican presumptive presidential nominee, Mitt Romney -- as the greatest thing since sliced bread or the wheel, perhaps. The lost jobs in the US of A, the growing income inequality between the super-rich and everyone else, the lowering standards of living for most Americans (heavily subsidized by an ever larger debt burden) -- well who in the Republican Party cared about all that? Profits were up and Wall Street was making money in good times and bad (thanks to corporate welfare, bailouts, lower taxes and subsidies for companies that don't need them). Not the former head of Bain Capital or the current head of Goldman Sachs, that much is certain.
They, like many of their comrades, just assumed that American military might would trump all other considerations when it came to American foreign policy goals (which for the most part are focused on helping -- surprise -- major American industries such and Big Oil and the Military Industrial Complex).
Today, however, our American Empire builders had to back down from a cherished policy, i.e., putting the screws to Iran by using sanctions to keep Iranian oil off the world market as much as possible. You see, for the sanctions to be effective (and I don't especially mean effective in terms of obtaining leverage in our supposed negotiations regarding Iran's nuclear program), other countries have to abide by them. America doesn't really doesn't obtain any of our oil from Iran. We can't, by ourselves, affect Iranian oil revenues unless we are willing to impose a blockade, which, under international law, is an act of war.
Keeping Iranian oil off the market (and incidentally helping oil traders) requires the cooperation of other nations if you don't intend to start another pointless war in the Mideast. In order to obtain that "cooperation" America said it would impose sanctions on financial institutions in countries that continued to buy Iranian oil. China, coincidentally, buys around one fifth (20%) of all of Iran's oil and gas exports. So guess what happened today.
China wasn't very happy about reducing its oil purchases beyond the level set by the American sanctions regime. The Chinese government also happened to notice that the US government had already granted exemptions to its European allies, India and Japan, allowing them a "reprieve" from US financial sanctions even if they bought more Iranian oil than we would like them to do. I'm just guessing here, but I think it is safe to assume that representatives of China's government had "discussions" with our State Department regarding this unequal treatment by the US government when it came to granting a similar reprieve from these US financial penalties. And so voila! Today, America's foreign policy with respect to Iran took a back seat to Chinese demands:
(Reuters) - The United States gave China a six-month reprieve from Iran financial sanctions on Thursday, avoiding a diplomatic spat with a country whose support it needs to try to quell violence in Syria and rein in Tehran's nuclear ambitions.
With Thursday's decision to grant exceptions to China, which buys up to a fifth of Iran's oil exports, and Singapore, which buys Iranian fuel oil, the Obama administration has now spared all 20 of Iran's major oil buyers from its unilateral sanctions.
When you destroy your country's manufacturing base and weaken its economy to the benefit of another, and when that one country owns more of your country's national debt than any other investor outside the Social Security Trust Fund and the Federal Reserve, all the military power in the world doesn't amount to a hill of beans. I don't know what China threatened to make us back down and allow it to continue to buy Iranian oil, but I can imagine it had something to do with their growing economic power vis-a-vis our relative economic weakness.
Now I don't know what you think about America's Iranian sanctions regime, but it doesn't really matter. China demonstrated today that anytime it believes our government's policies, foreign or domestic, impinge upon its interests, it can demand we back down or weaken those policies, and our government has shown that we will accede to their demands. For the more our economy continues its death spiral, one fueled by tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations, increased taxes and financial burdens on the poor and middle classes, and other proposed "austerity" measures (that are doing such a bang up job in Europe at the moment to restore economic stability and growth over there) the greater China's influence worldwide and here in America - political, technological, and economic - will grow at the expense of our country, and in ways we cannot expect. In short, the more we rely on China to prop up our economy, the more we adopt economic policies that benefit foreign powers such as China, the more the Chinese government and it corporate interests will influence our politics and foreign policy at the expense of the vast majority of the welfare of our people.
Sure, the Romneys and Hedge Fund managers and Wall Street kings will make out okay. A "slash and burn" economic model can still be sustained for another 15 to 20 years and they'll make out like bandits, destroying America's manufacturing base and shipping it overseas, just like they have in the past twenty years. It's funny, but for all the conspiracy theorists on the right who claim Obama is some secret "Manchurian" candidate, those politicians who who are deepest in the pockets of foreign powers always seem to be Republicans, don't they? And Romney certainly fits the bill.
Don't take my word for it, just ask the good folks in Freeport IL (h/t to icebergslim) who Mittens cares about the most: the people of Freeport and their jobs or his buddies at Bain Capital's profits from tearing down and outsourcing Freeport's major employer, lock, stock and barrel to -- China? They know who is the real Manchurian Candidate in this election and it ain't President Obama.

ScienceDaily (June 28, 2012) ? Whether it is a phobia like a fear of flying, public speaking or spiders, or a diagnosis such as obsessive compulsive disorder, new research finds patients suffering from anxiety disorders showed the most improvement when treated with cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) in conjunction with a "transdiagnostic" approach -- a model that allows therapists to apply one set of principles across anxiety disorders.
The combination was more effective than CBT combined with other types of anxiety disorder treatments, like relaxation training according to Peter Norton, associate professor in clinical psychology and director of the Anxiety Disorder Clinic at the University of Houston (UH).
Norton concludes that therapists treating people with anxiety disorders may effectively use a treatment that applies one set of principals across all types of anxiety disorders. The findings are the result of a decade of research, four separate clinical trials and the completion of a five-year grant funded by the National Institute of Mental Health.
Norton defines anxiety disorders as when anxiety and fear are so overwhelming that it can start to negatively impact a person's day-to-day life. He notes anxiety disorders include: panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), social anxiety disorder, specific phobias and generalized anxiety disorder. Often anxiety disorders occur with a secondary illness, such as depression, substance or alcohol abuse. Norton says there are targeted treatments for each diagnosis, but there has been little recognition that the treatments don't differ much, and they only differ in very specific ways.
"The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) has been an important breakthrough in understanding mental health, but people are dissatisfied with its fine level of differentiation," said Norton. "Panic disorders are considered something different from social phobia, which is considered something different from PTSD. The hope was that by getting refined in the diagnosis we could target interventions for each of these diagnoses, but in reality that just hasn't played out."
As a graduate student in Nebraska, Norton couldn't get enough people together on the same night to run a group treatment for social phobia, and that marked the beginning 10 years of work on the transdiagnostic treatment approach.
"What I realized is that I could open a group to people with anxiety disorders in general and develop a treatment program regardless of the artificial distinctions between social phobia and panic disorder, or obsessive-compulsive disorder, and focus on the core underlying things that are going wrong," said Norton.
Norton finds cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), a type of treatment with a specific time frame and goals, helps patients understand the thoughts and feelings that influence behaviors to be the most effective treatment. The twist for him was using CBT in conjunction with the transdiagnostic approach. The patients receiving the transdiagnostic treatment showed considerable improvement, especially with treating comorbid diagnoses, a disease or condition that co-exists with a primary disease and can stand on its own as a specific disease, like depression.
"What I have learned from my past research is that if you treat your principal diagnosis, such as social phobia and you hate public speaking, you are going to show improvement on some of your secondary diagnosis. Your mood is going to get a little better, your fear of heights might dissipate. So there is some effect there, but what we find is when we approach things with a transdiagnostic approach, we see a much bigger impact on comorbid diagnoses," said Norton. "In my research study, over two-thirds of comorbid diagnoses went away, versus what we typically find when I'm treating a specific diagnosis such as a panic disorder, where only about 40 percent of people will show that sort of remission in their secondary diagnosis. The transdiagnostic treatment approach is more efficient in treating the whole person rather than just treating the diagnosis, then treating the next diagnoses."
Norton notes the larger contributions of the studies are to guide further development and interventions for how clinical psychologists, therapists and social workers treat people with anxiety disorders. The data collected will be useful for people out on the front lines to effectively and efficiently treat people to reduce anxiety disorders.
Norton is the author of the book, "Group Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy of Anxiety. A Transdiagnostic Treatment Manual," and co-author of "The Anti-Anxiety Workbook: Proven Strategies to Overcome Worry, Phobias, Panic and Obsessions." He has authored more than 90 research papers on such topics as anxiety disorders, CBT and chronic pain, and he serves on the editorial boards of two scientific journals.

Health care spending ground to a halt in the wake of global economic malaise, a new OECD report finds.

The global economic malaise appears to have had a ripple effect on how much money was spent on health care.
The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development said Thursday that health care spending among its member countries ground to a halt in 2010, and early data suggests 2011 spending will follow a similar trend.
The OECD, whose member countries include many European countries, the United States and some others, said overall health care spending had grown by 5 percent on average between 2000 and 2009, continuing its steady increase even in the early stages of the economic crisis.
But by 2010, weak economic conditions pushed many governments to cut health care spending as they scrambled for ways to save money.
The overall?halt in health care spending was mainly driven by cuts in public funding for health, particularly in Europe.
In Ireland and the Czech Republic, the report said, individuals were asked to pay more out of pocket for health care. Ireland also cut wages and fees paid to health care professionals.
Other countries have expanded the use of generic drugs, cut costs at health ministries and taken other steps to curb health care spending.
In the United States, spending growth slowed to about 3 percent, the OECD said.
Early data from some countries suggests health care spending also will be curbed in 2011, the OECD said.

A Connecticut pediatrician is facing up to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to possessing more than 100,000 child pornography images and videos.
Todd Parrilla, 48, pleaded guilty in Hartford Federal court on Monday.
The sicko doc was nailed in August 2011 after cops in Kansas City downloaded more than 100 child-pornography images from a directory he managed from his home in Stonington, Conn., The Day newspaper reported.
A raid on his home turned up more than 100,000 images and 10,000 videos of children and teens on his computer and hard drives.
?This is a heinous crime,? said David Fein, U.S. Attorney for the District of Connecticut, according to local NBC.
?That it was committed by a pediatrician, whose profession is committed to the well-being of children, makes it especially disturbing.?
As part of his plea, the once-respected children?s doctor was forced to cop to his crimes during sentencing before the judge.
?I downloaded and used a file-share program to receive images,? he said, according to The Day. ?I exchanged images with the same program.?
Prosector Raymond F. Miller took issue with Parilla?s sanitized confession.
?The defendant talks about ?images? here,? Miller said. ?We?re talking about child pornography.?
Parilla will remain free until he is sentenced on October 24.

Heritage. I am acutely uncomfortable with the subject of ?heritage? in South Africa. There is a sense in which many South Africans, of which I am one, are not sure just what belongs in the ?heritage? box. We are who we are and have few clear lines to trace back to a particular ethnic group, language or place. We are generic South Africans. That is, I suppose, our heritage. This is important to mention as a presupposition when dealing with a concept like the ?African Indigenous Orchestra? which is really something that is simply generically African, without too many clear lines back to something which existed in a pure form at any one place.
African Music Instruments.
The Sibekwa Africa Indigenous Orchestra play a variety of instruments from various parts of Africa, not only from Southern Africa and then they mix these with western instruments. The music they play would perhaps have frightened a group of 18th century herdsmen in their rural reaches. It certainly owes more to Motown?s influence than Princess Magogo?s efforts to save traditional Nguni music. This is not a criticism, just a reflection on the ?generic South African? thing. It is, as the press release says, ?a unique blend of sounds and rhythms reminiscent of the old and new South African music scene.?
The show itself had absolutely no didactic element whatsoever. I had expected one and it never materialised. I have been privileged, over the years, to attend shows where the kudu horns, dinaka pipes, kalimbas, uhadis and makubes have been demonstrated and played. Here they were just played and if one has the background one knows which instrument is which and if one does not have the background one can just settle in to enjoy the sound.
The sound is enjoyable indeed. Afro-pop, Latin American jazz, polyrhythms and traditional jazz all fuse to make a joyful noise. The orchestra has travelled widely, both internationally and in South Africa and they have now released their first CD, Celebration, which is as much fun as the show was. Tlale Makhene leads the orchestra in a variety of bright, cheerful, upbeat numbers which includes one of South Africa?s best known pieces of music, Meadowlands. It is easy and pleasant listening.
The musicians are Tlale Makene, Siya Makuzeni, Esther Maumela, Thokozani Nsibande, Lucky Tshimbudzi, Lydia Mokhele, Bebe Shongwe, Percy Mbonani, Siya Makuzeni, Siyabulela Sifatyi, Thandi Dube, and Mokhalinyana Mokhere.

Intel gives $12.5 million for 5-university collaboration
Irvine, Calif., June 26, 2012 UC Irvine will anchor a new $12.5 million, Intel-funded research center that applies social science and humanities to the design and analysis of digital information.
"Technology is profoundly entangled with our everyday lives. As researchers, we can't get a handle on what's going on by looking at technical factors alone. We have to study them in concert with human, social and cultural aspects," said UCI informatics professor Paul Dourish.
He and Scott Mainwaring of Intel Labs will co-lead the center, dubbed the Intel Science and Technology Center for Social Computing, along with UCI anthropology and law professor Bill Maurer.
Justin Rattner, Intel chief technology officer, announced the new center this morning in San Francisco at the Research@Intel 10th anniversary event. "Intel's latest ISTC will establish a new computing paradigm to bridge the gap between technical and social disciplines and create new ways for social scientists, designers and technologists to collaboratively inform, challenge and advance each other's' work," he said.
Maurer, associate dean of UCI's School of Social Sciences, agreed: "Computing today is social through and through, and that is redefining the very nature of how we experience ourselves as persons. Information design needs to be supplemented by disciplines with long histories of wrestling with social and technical relationships."
Intel researchers will work side by side with academics in campus labs. The research is not proprietary and will be public, open intellectual property. Mainwaring, senior research scientist with Intel Labs' Interaction & Experience Research group, has already moved into an office at UCI's Donald Bren School of Information & Computer Sciences.
"I'm tremendously excited," he said. "I've been working for the past decade with Paul Dourish and Bill Maurer on a number of collaborations, and this is a chance for me to really get engaged with the whole academic community here at Irvine."
UCI will serve as the center's hub, with four other campuses participating: Cornell University, Indiana University, the Georgia Institute of Technology and New York University. Those involved will include experts in anthropology, media studies, digital humanities, philosophy and computer science, among others.
Plans encompass everything from holding virtual five-campus seminars to creating product prototypes. Mainwaring said he and others could bring valuable business-world perspective to the work.
"There's a great opportunity here. There's also a challenge, because we're dealing with rigorous theory based on social science," he said. "A major focus for the Intel researchers based here will be to bridge this divide, to help frame our findings in ways that can have real-world impact within our company and elsewhere."
UCI will receive $5 million over a five-year period, with another $7.5 million split among the other universities. A defining theme will be explored annually. The first concerns restoring "materiality" to information such as examining the carbon footprint and other tangible costs and effects of invisible processes.
The grant is part of Intel's larger, $100 million program to increase university research and accelerate innovation. Anchored at leading institutions across the nation, these collaborations build research communities focused on specific technology areas.
Maurer said the effort dovetails with a strong history of joint projects at UCI since its inception nearly 50 years ago. "It's in our DNA to be interdisciplinary," he said.

Justin Rattner, Intel chief technology officer, announced the new center this morning in San Francisco at the Research@Intel 10th anniversary event. "Intel's latest ISTC will establish a new computing paradigm to bridge the gap between technical and social disciplines and create new ways for social scientists, designers and technologists to collaboratively inform, challenge and advance each other's' work," he said.
Maurer, associate dean of UCI's School of Social Sciences, agreed: "Computing today is social through and through, and that is redefining the very nature of how we experience ourselves as persons. Information design needs to be supplemented by disciplines with long histories of wrestling with social and technical relationships."
Intel researchers will work side by side with academics in campus labs. The research is not proprietary and will be public, open intellectual property. Mainwaring, senior research scientist with Intel Labs' Interaction & Experience Research group, has already moved into an office at UCI's Donald Bren School of Information & Computer Sciences.
"I'm tremendously excited," he said. "I've been working for the past decade with Paul Dourish and Bill Maurer on a number of collaborations, and this is a chance for me to really get engaged with the whole academic community here at Irvine."
UCI will serve as the center's hub, with four other campuses participating: Cornell University, Indiana University, the Georgia Institute of Technology and New York University. Those involved will include experts in anthropology, media studies, digital humanities, philosophy and computer science, among others.
Plans encompass everything from holding virtual five-campus seminars to creating product prototypes. Mainwaring said he and others could bring valuable business-world perspective to the work.
"There's a great opportunity here. There's also a challenge, because we're dealing with rigorous theory based on social science," he said. "A major focus for the Intel researchers based here will be to bridge this divide, to help frame our findings in ways that can have real-world impact within our company and elsewhere."
UCI will receive $5 million over a five-year period, with another $7.5 million split among the other universities. A defining theme will be explored annually. The first concerns restoring "materiality" to information such as examining the carbon footprint and other tangible costs and effects of invisible processes.
The grant is part of Intel's larger, $100 million program to increase university research and accelerate innovation. Anchored at leading institutions across the nation, these collaborations build research communities focused on specific technology areas.
Maurer said the effort dovetails with a strong history of joint projects at UCI since its inception nearly 50 years ago. "It's in our DNA to be interdisciplinary," he said.

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) ? The depiction of Jerry Sandusky on a well-known mural across the street from the Penn State campus has been replaced by an image of a poet and activist draped with a blue ribbon ? a symbol for awareness of child sexual abuse.
It was artist Michael Pilato's latest step in erasing the image of the disgraced former assistant football coach following Sandusky's conviction last week on 45 counts at his child sex abuse trial.
Sandusky was removed from the mural days after his arrest in November. But Pilato returned to the work on Sunday, painting in Dora McQuaid, a Penn State graduate who is a poet and an advocate for domestic and sexual violence victims and issues. The blue ribbon was added on Monday.
Also replacing Sandusky were two red handprints ? one belonging to Ann Van Kuren, one of the 12 jurors who convicted Sandusky, and the other belonging to a sexual abuse victim.
Meanwhile, as Sandusky insisted through a lawyer Monday that he was not guilty, Van Kuren said she hoped the verdict would help his accusers heal.
Van Kuren said the jury found the testimony of the eight victims who took the witness stand compelling, and they weighed the accounts and evidence diligently before finding Sandusky guilty last week of sexually abusing 10 boys over 15 years. She expressed empathy for the young men who offered emotional and explicit testimony.
"I really feel for the victims and any other victims that are out there that haven't come forward and told their" stories, Van Kuren told The Associated Press. "I'm hoping that this trial, with this verdict, will help them heal."
The sweeping sex abuse case rocked the Penn State community and the resulting scandal led to the ousters of Sandusky's former boss ? Hall of Fame coach Joe Paterno ? and the university's president. It also forced a re-examination of the role that college administrators played in reporting abuse allegations.
Sandusky, 68, is under observation at the Centre County jail, where he is being kept away from other inmates pending a psychological review that will help determine the next step toward his sentencing in about three months.
"He's defiant and wants the truth to be told. He wants people to know that he's not guilty," said lawyer Karl Rominger, who visited his incarcerated client Monday.
Also Monday, Judge John Cleland ordered county probation officers to evaluate whether Sandusky is a sexual predator, a finding that could factor into his prison placement. Such orders are pro forma in sex abuse cases. Sex offenders are required to undergo treatment while in prison, so Sandusky, if deemed a predator, would likely be sent to a facility with such a program.
Rominger told the AP that Sandusky said that he's not suicidal and that he wants to get the separate psychological examination done so that he can receive visits from his friends and family.
The state investigation into Sandusky didn't begin until after the ex-coach was barred from a high school in 2009 when a mother complained about him. At the time, Gov. Tom Corbett was the state attorney general. Charges were filed in November 2011.
Investigators took into account Sandusky's status as a celebrated assistant coach in building the case, Corbett said Monday when asked in Harrisburg why charges weren't filed after the first accuser came forward.
"If it's one-on-one and now put the celebrity status in, put (that) Jerry Sandusky is loved by everybody... how can anybody say there must be something wrong?" Corbett said. "You'd better corroborate it, and that's what they started doing. They started pulling strings and gathering and gathering and gathering, and that's my experience. You build those cases, as well as you can."
Sandusky has repeatedly maintained his innocence. He will likely die in prison given mandatory minimum sentencing requirements.
The conviction is only just the start of possibly years of legal proceedings over the case. Besides appeals, there remains an active investigation into Sandusky by the state attorney general's office as well as a federal investigation.
Corbett said Penn State trustees are still awaiting the results of an internal investigation by former FBI director Louis Freeh into the school's handling of the Sandusky case.
The university could also face a wave of new lawsuits. An hour after the verdict Friday night, Penn State said in a statement it was inviting victims to "participate in a program to facilitate the resolution of claims against the university arising out of Mr. Sandusky's conduct." The school said it sought to address victims' concerns privately, expeditiously and fairly.
Asked to clarify Monday, school spokesman Dave LaTorre said the university won't discuss details about litigation or how much money might be set aside for potential settlements, and he declined to comment further.

There are two ways: either Wayne experiences an epiphany, changing or solidifying his world view for good, or he dies/retires while the symbol lives on as foreshadowed in "Batman Begins."
